WHO is the suspicious character carrying an armful of beer from a supermarket? Well, one of them at least is Friends star David Schwimmer.
The actor posted the spoof video on Twitter after Blackpool police appealed for help in finding a suspect who looks just like his sitcom character Ross.
‚ÄėOfficers, I swear it wasn‚Äôt me,‚Äô he tweeted. ‚ÄėAs you can see, I was in New York. To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation. #itwasntme‚Äô
In the short clip, the actor is seen creeping down the aisle of a US supermarket carrying a cardboard box full of cans of beer ‚ÄĒ just like the real suspect in Blackpool.
Schwimmer, 51, chipped in after the original police appeal went viral on social media, causing much hilarity.
Thousands of people pointed out the suspect was the spitting image of Ross. Referencing the theme song from Friends, one quipped: ‚ÄėI don‚Äôt think it‚Äôs been this guy‚Äôs day, his week, his month or even his year.‚Äô
Another said: ‚ÄėI‚Äôm surprised you‚Äôve not found him‚Ķ it‚Äôs like you‚Äôre always stuck in second gear.‚Äô
Others riffed on some of Ross‚Äôs most famous lines. ‚ÄėShouldn‚Äôt he be at work‚Ķ or is he on a break?‚Äô joked one.
The police also saw the funny side, replying: ‚ÄėThank you to everyone for your speedy responses. We have investigated this matter thoroughly and have confirmed that David Schwimmer was in America on this date. We‚Äôre so sorry it has to be this way.‚Äô
The real suspect is wanted for the alleged theft of a jacket, wallet and mobile from a Blackpool restaurant on September 20. Police released the CCTV image of him buying beer from a shop.
