WHO is the suspicious character carrying an armful of beer from a supermarket? Well, one of them at least is Friends star David Schwimmer.

The actor posted the spoof video on Twitter after Blackpool police appealed for help in finding a suspect who looks just like his sitcom character Ross.

‘Officers, I swear it wasn’t me,’ he tweeted. ‘As you can see, I was in New York. To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation. #itwasntme’

In the short clip, the actor is seen creeping down the aisle of a US supermarket carrying a cardboard box full of cans of beer — just like the real suspect in Blackpool.

Spooky: The CCTV image of the suspect posted by Blackpool police went viral when people pointed out he looked like Ross from Friends PIC: PA

Schwimmer, 51, chipped in after the original police appeal went viral on social media, causing much hilarity.

Thousands of people pointed out the suspect was the spitting image of Ross. Referencing the theme song from Friends, one quipped: ‘I don’t think it’s been this guy’s day, his week, his month or even his year.’

Another said: ‘I’m surprised you’ve not found him… it’s like you’re always stuck in second gear.’

Others riffed on some of Ross’s most famous lines. ‘Shouldn’t he be at work… or is he on a break?’ joked one.

The police also saw the funny side, replying: ‘Thank you to everyone for your speedy responses. We have investigated this matter thoroughly and have confirmed that David Schwimmer was in America on this date. We’re so sorry it has to be this way.’

The real suspect is wanted for the alleged theft of a jacket, wallet and mobile from a Blackpool restaurant on September 20. Police released the CCTV image of him buying beer from a shop.
