Google Maps Street View has photographed a very weird looking animal that might leave some viewers scarred and others filled with sympathy.
The image shows a very bizarre-looking beast that at first glance looks a bit like a dog – apart from one crucial difference.
The weird, black, furry creature has two heads, lending a very sinister feel to the Google image.
Like something out of a Greek myth, the beast’s two heads gaze off in different directions, with one head seeming a lot blacker and glossier than the other.
To add to the mystery there is a collar around each head and a lead lying on the ground next to the creature.
This suggests that someone owns this bizarre animal and has perhaps accepted its two heads.
Thankfully, there is a much more logical explanation to the deformed monster.
The animal is, in fact, a real dog who has just one head – but a technological glitch with the Google cameras has created a very weird effect.
The photography splicing has caused the problem due to the way the images are assembled.
When taking the photo, the 360-degree cameras shoot multiple pictures to create the seamless image.
This is done by knitting the images together to make it seem realistic.
However, moving objects often ruin the scene as they shift when the photos are taken.
This is far from the only time such a bizarre image has cropped up on Google Maps.
Google has previously captured a man enjoying a view on a large balcony surrounded by other tourists.
But quite how the man can see the vista is a mystery because rather than having eyes, a nose and a mouth he has an arm growing out of his face.
The back of his head seems completely normal, and he’s clearly wearing a baseball hat, but his neck morphs straight into the arm.
What’s more, the arm begins halfway up the bicep and is bending into a fist at the elbow.
It almost looks a bit like the tourist has a trunk, just like an elephant, as he has no discernible facial features at all.
However, if you look closely, it becomes clear that not all is as it seems.
Clearly, the poor man has fallen victim to the same unfortunate technological glitch that the dog did.
Just as the dog has the one head, so the man has all of his facial features.
