Most of us are enjoying the summer holidays – and when we’re off to do our weekly shops, Christmas is the last thing on our minds.
Although Santa isn’t coming to town for another FOUR months, staff at a branch of Tesco got into the festive mood by putting up a massive tree – but it was for a surprising reason.
The tree didn’t go unnoticed by locals who were baffled when they spotted the festive display – as it’s only August.
The massive 25ft tree was put up in the car park of the store yesterday, complete with twinkling fairy lights.
Rob James noticed the out of place tree and took to Twitter to say that he witnessed it getting decorated outside Tesco on Newmarket road.
He added: “It‚Äôs bonkers! I don‚Äôt understand why it was there?”
Someone commented: “I went in Card Factory the other day and they had a whole aisle dedicated to Christmas Cards!”
Other people lamented the premature festive tree, as one person wrote: “Christmas gets earlier every year apparently lol”.
Tesco saw the funny side to the reactions of stunned shoppers on social media.
The brand replied to Rob on Twitter, writing: “Hi Rob, Oh that’s a bit early isn’t it! 117 sleeps to go! I hope it will be decorated with Halloween decorations first :).”
It turned out that Tesco put up the tree only temporarily to film a Christmas advert – and it has been taken down this morning.
Shoppers have posted on social media about the Christmas stock on the shelves of Tesco already, including giftwrap, cards and festive boxes of chocolates.
It really DOES come earlier every year.
